Problem Solving - Colourful Jerseys

We have been learning to...

  • continue a repeating and sequential pattern.
  • draw a picture or use equipment to solve a problem

In a class there are 20 children. They are wearing jerseys of 3 different colours - blue, green and red. The class was lined up in a way that the pattern of jerseys was:

Blue, blue, green, green, red, blue, blue, green, green, red...

What colour jersey is the last child wearing?
How many children are wearing a red jersey?

Our Six Sentence Fairytales

This term we have been writing six sentence fairytales. We have read lots of fairytales and retold them in our own words. During our writing we have enjoyed changing well known fairytales and giving them a different ending, changing the setting or giving the characters new special talents.

Six Sentence Fairytale Criteria:

  1. Who is the main character?
  2. Where does your character live?
  3. What is your character's special talent?
  4. What problem does your character have?
  5. How does your character feel?
  6. How does your character solve the problem?

Have a read of Samantha's fairytale.

Once upon a time there was a princess called Rapunzel.
She lived in a big castle.
She was good at letting down her hair.
The big ugly dragon came to catch her.
Rapunzel was scared of the dragon.
................

The last sentence is missing can you write it for her?

Whole School Cross-country

What a great morning we had at Waipuna Park on Tuesday for our whole school cross-country. The sun was shining and everyone looked fabulous in their house colours. In Room 4 we have been writing recounts about the cross-country. Leave a comment below with your thoughts or feelings about the cross-country. For more photos of the day please visit the sports page.

Read a selection of our cross-country recounts below:

We went to Waipuna Park on the bus and the whole school came to. We ran around the trees and we went through the log. I was tired. I got a number 7 card and it was fun.

On Tuesday the whole of Tauriko School went to Waipuna Park on the bus for our cross-country. When it was my turn to run we all lined up at the start. The man shot the starting gun into the air and we were off running. We ran around the grass, up the hill, over or under the log and through the walnut trees. We could hear lots of people cheering us on. When we came near the finish line I started to sprint. After all my running I cam 2nd in the Year 2 boys race. I felt puffed but I was happy and had lots of fun.

Share the Road

Yesterday we had some visitors from the Share the Programme to teach us about how to be safe around trucks. We learnt that there are many blind spots on a truck where a truck driver won't be able to see us. We learnt a little saying to help us: Be safe, Be seen! We also got to sit in the truck and to beep its horn. Madina enjoyed beeping the horn so much that the Tall Poppies had to come out and see what was going on.

Thanks so much for visiting us at Tauriko School!

McLaren Falls Trip

What an amazing day we had at McLaren Falls last Friday. We did so much exploring of our local bush. Mrs van Dijk's highlight was the waterfall and exploring in the water and mud. What was your highlight from our day out? Leave a comment below to let us know and we will share these in class next week.

Below are a couple of recounts about our day trip and some photos that were taken on the day. We have been learning to write recounts in Room 4 this term and have been making sure we tell the audience who was there, where we went, how we got there and what we did. We hope you enjoy them.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the parents who came along to help on the day. You made our trip successful and lots of fun.

I went to McLaren Falls on Friday. I walked to the waterfall and I saw some pukekos.
